WHAT IS THE CHILD CARE FOOD PROGRAM?
The Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) program that provides reimbursement for nutritious meals and helps to develop positive eating habits for young children enrolled in family day care homes across the nation. The West Virginia Child Nutrition Office through sponsoring organizations across the state administers the CACFP.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Family day care providers can receive up to two meals and one snack, or two snacks and one meal, per enrolled child each day. Rates of reimbursement in effect through June 30, 2017 are: $1.31 per breakfast, $2.46 per lunch or dinner, and 73 cents per snack. Providers could receive $372.90 per month if caring for 3 children each day, 22 days per month. Participants having children may also be eligible to receive reimbursement for their own child’s meals. All providers receive education in areas related to food service, record keeping, and nutrition.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Homes certified with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources to provide child care are eligible to participate in the CACFP.
